NSI‑189: Brain Volume Boost or Overhyped Nootropic?

I just finished reading the latest preprint on the NIH site about NSI‑189 (see /peptides/nsi‑189). The paper shows an MRI after 90 days of 40‑mg daily that the hippocampal volume increased by about 2 to 3 percent in the treatment group. The authors claim that this neurogenesis translates to better memory and daqui, but the cognitive tests only moved a few points on the digit‑symbol substitution test. For me, it feels like the hype is a step ahead of the evidence, the brain‑volume jump looks cool, but I’m not sure that’s a game‑changer for everyday motivation or learning.
I’ve seen people report a mild headache and insomnia after the first week, which fits the label on the page. The real question for us biohackers is: do we want to put a drug in the brain that shows a measurable MRI change but with no clear functional benefit yet? What are your thoughts on chasing a measurable brain metric versus actual performance gains?
