Mild scalp irritation from RU-58841, anyone else get this?

I started reading about RU-58841 because I wanted something local for hair, but I am being very cautious with it. I have not used it long enough to say anything solid, only noticed that a few people report scalp dryness and irritation when the vehicle is not well tolerated. That part makes sense to me, because with topicals the solvent itself can be the problem, not only the active compound.

I am also wondering how people are checking safety here. Do you watch for itching, redness, flakes, or any shedding change before continuing? If someone is already using finasteride, is there any reason to be extra careful with overlap, or is the main issue just local skin reaction?

For me, if I ever try it, I would keep it very simple at first and not mix a lot of new things together. Too many stacks at once is asking for confusion, na? I would rather know what is causing what. If anyone has had contact dermatitis or a weird scalp reaction, kindly share how it showed up and what helped.

  • mira_mobility: Yeah, that’s pretty much how I’d think about it too. With RU, the vehicle seems to be the bit that bites a lot of people, not just the active itself. I’ve seen folks mention itch, tightness, flakes, and that hot, stingy sort of feel within a few applications, and for me that would be the red flag to stop and reset rather than push through it. On overlap with finasteride, my take is the bigger concern is usually just adding another variable and confusing the picture, not some obvious local inter
  • jade494: Yes, that is my worry too. If the scalp is already getting itchy or stingy, I would not keep pushing it just to see. For me, it becomes impossible to tell if RU is doing anything useful or just annoying the skin. Have you seen any one vehicle that seems less irritating, or is it hit and miss only?
  • rowan_k: I hear you, the solvent does most of the drama for me too – a tight, stinging scalp after two days made me pause and switch to a milder carrier. And yeah, finasteride doesn’t seem to cause a direct clash, but adding another topical just muddies any side‑effects you’re trying to track, so I keep the skin as calm as possible before mixing anything.
  • jade494: Thank you for the reply. I agree that keeping the skin calm is important. Since you mentioned the stinging feeling, did you find a specific carrier that worked better for you? I am still just reading and planning, but I want to avoid that tight feeling itself. I think I will stick to your idea and not add any other topicals until I am sure about the first one. It is better to be safe, no?
