New to MK-677, what does a basic starting protocol even look like?

I’m pretty green on this stuff and ngl I keep seeing MK-677 mentioned as the easy first step because it’s oral and once daily. That part makes sense to me, but I’m trying to separate “easy to take” from “good idea to run”.

From what I’ve read on here, the usual range seems to be 10 to 25 mg once daily, often in the evening. I get the general idea that it can affect sleep, recovery, and appetite, but I’m a bit lost on how people actually judge if it’s doing anything useful versus just making them hungrier and holding water.

If someone wanted to read a protocol properly, what are the main things to look at first, dose, timing, side effects, blood sugar, all that? I’m also not fully clear on how long people usually give it before deciding it’s worth continuing.

Just trying to learn the basics before I jump into anything half-baked.

  • noah239: For what it is worth, I would look at MK-677 more like a “monitor closely” compound than a casual easy first step. From my own notes and a few people around me, the first thing to watch is appetite and water retention, because those show up fast and can fool you into thinking it is doing more than it is. Sleep can feel deeper for some, but that can be very individual, and the blood sugar piece is the one I would not ignore at all. If someone is trying it, I think the sensible read is baseline
  • fasted_scientist: Yeah, that’s pretty much the part I was trying to pin down, cheers. The appetite and water bit is what makes me a bit wary ngl, because it’s easy to mistake “I’m eating more and look fuller” for actual recovery. The blood sugar point is spot on. I’d want baseline fasting glucose before anything, then check it again after 2 to 4 weeks, not just go off vibes. When you say “a few people around me”, did any of them see the sleep improvement first, or was it mostly hunger from day one?
  • jake777: Makes sense. I’ve also started with a fasting glucose check and will repeat after four weeks. If I notice a sudden jump or persistent cravings, I’ll cut back. Any tips on how quickly you’d taper if the water‑weight creeps up?
  • fasted_scientist: Yeah, I also do the glucose thing – I checked mine before I started and then again at the four‑week mark. As for water‑weight, I’ve found it’s best not to yank it out cold. If I see a few kilos after about 8‑10 weeks I’ll cut the dose by roughly 5 mg and keep the new level for another month to see if it settles. If it’s still climbing I’ll drop another 5 mg or stop altogether. Gives the body a chance to adapt without a shock.
