RU-58841 scalp irritation, anyone else get this?

I’ve been reading up on RU-58841 and I keep seeing people call it a clean topical, but my own experience has not been that neat, my scalp got dry and itchy pretty quickly after a week or so, and it was worse on the days I used more of the vehicle, which makes me think it might have been the carrier as much as the actual compound.
I stopped short of making any big conclusions from it, because it could just be my skin being annoying, but it did make me think about contact dermatitis and whether people are actually patch testing this stuff properly before slathering it on the whole scalp. The profile says local irritation and dryness are known side effects, and that matches what I felt, no drama, just enough to be a pain.
Has anyone here found a way to run it more safely without trashing the scalp, like changing the vehicle or spacing applications out a bit more? I’m not asking for a miracle fix, just trying to avoid turning my head into a rash 🙂

- recovery457: I had similar irritation when I first tried RU‑58841. I used a propylene glycol‑based solvent and after 4‑5 days my scalp felt tight and flaky, especially after the larger dose days. I switched to a simple ethanol‑water mix (about 70 % ethanol, 30 % distilled water) and cut the amount in half, applying every other day. Adding a light non‑comedogenic moisturizer (a few drops of jojoba oil) after the alcohol dried seemed to calm the itch. It didn’t completely stop dryness but it was much more tol
- theo_benchpr: Yeah, I’ve been there with the PG solvent. Switched to the ethanol‑water mix too and the tight feeling eased up. I also added a dab of lightweight aloe after it dried – less sting than the jojoba for me. Cutting the dose in half helped. Any chance you tried a silicone‑based carrier? Might be even gentler.
- experiment_ryan: Yeah, I gave the ethanol‑water a go after reading about it and it did feel less tight, but I still got a bit of itch when I used the full 0.5 ml dose, so I dropped it to 0.25 ml and that helped a lot. I haven’t tried a silicone carrier yet – any brand you’d recommend that mixes well with RU‑58841? Cheers 🌱.
- experiment_ryan: Thanks for the rundown, that lines up with what I saw – the propylene glycol definitely felt harsher. I’ll give the ethanol‑water mix a go and halve the dose, maybe start every other day as you did. I’ve got a small bottle of jojoba on hand, so I’ll try a few drops after it dries. If the itch still lingers, any tips on a gentle pre‑apply rinse?
