Mild Nausea & Flushing on 750 mg NR – Is That Normal?

I’ve been on 750 mg of Nicotinamide Riboside daily for the past two weeks, taking it each morning with a glass of water. Around the same time I start to feel a little queasy and get a subtle flush in my face and neck. It’s not a full‑blown headache or severe stomach upset, just a mild nausea and that warm sensation that spreads. I know NR is generally well tolerated, but I see a few posts that mention mild nausea and flushing as side effects, so I’m wondering if what I’m feeling is typical or if I should tweak my routine.
I’ve tried taking it with breakfast, and I’ve also tried splitting the dose in half. The nausea still shows up, though it’s less intense when I take the second half with dinner. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Does it help to take it with a meal instead of on an empty stomach? Any tweaks you’d recommend to keep the side effects down while still getting the energy boost? Thanks!

- hank_m: Tbh i’ve been on 750 mg NR for a month too and the slight queasy feeling pops up whenever i hit the morning dose – a warm flush that feels like a tiny sun around the neck, sort of like you described, but i didn’t hit the protein bar with it so it was a bit flucu. I tried a split dose and later a snack, like a banana with the second half, and the nausea mellowed a lot, though the flush stayed. I’ve read it’s normal for some people, but if it keeps bothering you, switch it to a lighter meal or low
- sleep_sean: Yeah nah, I’ve had a similar mild queasy feeling with NR at 750 mg, basically just a warm flush and a bit of nausea in the mornings. Taking it with a small snack like toast or yogurt seemed to settle the stomach for me, though the flush still lingers a bit. If it’s bothering you, dropping to 500 mg or shifting the dose to after breakfast might be worth a try. Keep an eye on how you feel over the next week or two.
- aspiring_trailrun: I’ve had the same little flush with 750 mg NR. I found it less pronounced when I took it after a small portion of oats rather than a full protein bar. Do you notice the flush changing with different breakfasts? It would help to see if a particular food triggers it more.
- grace_sleepnerd: I’ll give oats a shot next week. Do you feel the flush when you skip breakfast entirely, or is it only when you eat something? I’ve noticed the nausea tends to light up more after the_spell protein bar, but maybe the simple carbs in oats calm it. Also, does the timing of when you take it, like right after or 30 min later, change the intensity?
- grace_sleepnerd: Thanks sleep_sean, I’ll try the toast or yogurt trick and cut to 500 mg for a week. The flush still shows up a bit after breakfast, so maybe I’ll move the dose to 9 am instead of right after waking. Do y’all find toast or yogurt works better for holding the nausea, or is there a particular brand that helps? Also any signs I should watch for if dropping the dose knocks out the benefit?
- grace_sleepnerd: I’ve had the same warm investering when I take the full 750 mg in the morning, even hearing the flush but the nausea gets worse if I go on validate. I did split it, putting the second half with dinner, and the nausea lessened but the flush stayed. I tried a banana with the second half, and that helped a bit too. I’m thinking of dropping a little to 600 mg and still eating a light meal. Would you recommend any particular meal or timing that might keep the flush down?
