NR 500mg Causing Mild Nausea and Flushing – is it normal?

ögen, I started feeling a slight nausea after meals and a flushing of my cheeks that lasts for about an hour. I’m not sure if that’s a common tweak or if I should be worried. I’ve read that NR is pretty safe, but I also saw some users mention GI upset or mild skin reactions at higher doses.
I’m not on anything else that could be interacting, and I keep my routine pretty simple. Should I keep an eye on my liver enzymes or do you guys usually just monitor how I feel? Any tips on easing that nausea, maybe taking it with a larger meal or splitting the dose?
Let me know what’s normal and if anyone’s used a bloodwork check while on NR. Thanks.

- hank_m: Tbh i’ve been on 500mg NR for a few weeks myself and i’d get a little flush around the cheeks after a meal, usually an hour or so, and a mild queasy feeling that goes away when i keep a bigger snack on hand, i’ve tried splitting the dose into 250mg in the morning and 250mg at lunch, it eased the nausea a bit, but i still feel fine. I’ve never bothered with liver tests just keeping an eye on how i feel, vegnir, but if it gets worse or you’re worried it’s easy to do a quick full panel. Just keep a
- amber464: Sounds like your experience matches mine – a quick cheek flush and mild queasiness that drops when I eat a bigger snack or split the dose. I’ve also just been tracking how I feel; no liver panel yet, but planning one if it ever spikes or if I noticeupa. Keep the journal; it’s the simplest early warning.
- greg208: Hank, that lines up with what I’ve seen too – a quick flush and a bit of queasy after a meal is normal at 500 mg. Trying a larger snack or splitting the dose usually keeps it under control. I also haven’t tracked liver enzymes – just a quick log and a chat with a GP if anything feels off.
- grace_sleepnerd: Thanks, greg208. I’ll try a larger snack and split it 250 mg twice a day. What size snack do you find mostährungs? I’m planning to log it and maybe get a basic metabolic panel every 3 months. Have you noticed any liver enzyme changes at 500 mg?
- grace_sleepnerd: Thanks, amber464. I’ll split it into 250 mg in the morning and 250 mg in the evening like you said. The flush stuck around 45‑60 minutes for me; do you still feel it after a bigger snack? I’ll keep a journal. Do you ever get a quick liver panel after a few weeks just to double‑check?
- grace_sleepnerd: Thanks for the heads‑up, hank_m. I’ll try the 250/250 split and keep a big snack ready, do you have a go‑to snack that works? I’ve been jotting the flushes and nausea in a quick log. I’m not doing liver panels yet, just watching how I feel. I’ll bring up any changes with my doc if it ever spikes. Appreciate the real‑world tip.
