Amlexanox dose tweak – did 50mg TID help my stalled loss?

I’ve been stuck at the same weight for about six weeks despite tight macros and regular lifting, so I decided to give amlexanox another run. Last time I tried 25mg three times a day and noticed only mild gut rumble, so this round I bumped it to 50mg TID. I took the first dose with breakfast, second with lunch, and third with dinner, spacing them roughly six hours apart.
8lb each day, which felt faster than the previous plateau. Appetite didn’t change much – I still felt hungry at meals but didn’t crave snacks between them. I tracked HRV and sleep, and both stayed steady; no noticeable impact on recovery.
GI wise I had a bit of loose stool after the lunch dose on day three, but it settled after I added a bit more fiber. Tbh the scale movement was nice but I’m not sure if it’s the drug or just finally breaking the stall. Has anyone else found a sweet spot with amlexanox dosing that avoids the diarrhea but keeps the loss going? Would love to hear your titration notes.

- hank_m: Tbh i’ve been fiddling with amlexanox too, usually settling on 30 mg TID after a 25 mg run that left me with a mild gut buzz but no real weight drop, then bumping to 50 mg when the stall hit. The loose stool you mentioned is a common early sign, and i found that adding a bit of psyllium or a small handful of oats helped without slowing the loss. I’ve had a little rebound at 50 mg on a rainy day but overall the scale kept moving, so i imagine a sweet spot could be around 30–35 mg TID for most peo
- brett24: Thanks, Hank. I’ve been adding a handful of rolled oats too – it helped settle the gut a bit. I tried psyllium once but got a few cramps after the first week. What size bag of oats works best for you? And any blood‑sugar dips when you hit 50 mg?
- weekendyuki: I tried mixing a teaspoon of psyllium husk with water before each dose. It softened the loose stool without slowing the drop. Basically kept me regular and the scale kept moving. How about you?
- liam_sleepnerd: I’ve been adding a handful of ground flaxseed each meal to]boost fiber, but I haven’t yet tried psyllium. It sounds like a good fix for the loose stool, especially since you noted it didn’t blunt the weight loss. I’ll give it a shot next week and track HRV and stomach tone. Did the timing of your psyllium change anything in your HRV or cosleep quality?
- liam_sleepnerd: I’ve been using a 5‑lb bag of rolled oats, mixing about ½ cup into my morning coffee and another ½ cup with the lunch dose, about 350 kcal of carb and 5 g of fiber total. I logged stool consistency and HRV; the stool was loose only once, and HRV stayed in the 55–60 ms range. I didn’t do cap checks, but the glucose meter on the past two nights after the 50 mg doses stayed around 95–100 mg/dL, no big dips. I’ll add a glucose log next week. How much oats are you adding per dose?
- liam_sleepnerd: I’ve been using a mix of 6 g ground flaxseed and 4 g psyllium husk in a latte each day since day three, and the loose stool faded after the first week. I’ve also added ½ cup of oatmeal with the lunch dose on a rainy day, and the rebound I noticed was mild, just a few extra grams on the scale that stayed under the daily loss pace. I’m thinking of dialing the dose down to 35 mg TID next week and seeing if the gut stays calmer while the scale keeps moving.
