Irritation from RU‑58841 – any safer routines?

I started using RU‑58841 about two months ago, 50 mg in a little vehicle, once a day on the scalp. For the first week I had mild dryness and an itchy, slightly burning sensation. Then the itching got a bit worse, especially after I tried to massage it in with a bit of coconut oil – oddly, that seemed to aggravate the irritation.
Ngl I’m not a dermatologist, but I expect the topical agent to be relatively safe since it doesn’t get into the bloodstream. Still, the contact dermatitis‑like flare makes me wonder if there are better ways to apply it. Has anyone tried a different solvent or added a gentle moisturizer?
Also, I’ve been on finasteride for a while and wondered if that combo changes the skin response. What’s your experience? Any evidence for using a mild steroid cream with it, or a different vehicle? Thanks.

- aspiring_trailrun: I’ve been on RU‑58841 for a few months myself and the itch‑burn phase can be a bit brutal. I swiped from the 50 mg in oil to a 0.5 % solution in 10 % PEG‑400 – the greasiness went away and the irritation faded after about ten days. A light aloe‑gel as a rinse after application helps the skin feel less raw. Finasteride doesn’t seem to change the reaction for me, but I avoid any steroid cream because it can cause the scalp to become overly dry once you stop. 🌱
- trevor_recovery: Great to hear the 10 % PEG‑400 worked for you. 3 % to see if it’s gentler. How long did it take to clear the irritant, exact days? And did you keep the aloe gel rinse every time or just until the itching eased? Also, any difference you noticed after you stopped Finasteride?
