B12 injection site pain and how I tamed it

I started the 1500 mcg B12 shots about six months ago to boost my energy and fix a mild B12 dip on my labs. The first few injections were a bit rough – my thigh felt tight, a little tender, and after a day I had a mild itch plus a faint red halo. The pain got a lot worse when I ran late and had to inject in the rush of the night shift. I also noticed a light stomach upset about an hour after a few doses, which turned out to be the mild diarrhea mentioned on the product page.

To keep the soreness in check, I’ve been rotating the injection site to the back of the thigh and the front of the calf. I also use a 25‑g needle and a quick milder massage for 30 seconds after each shot. A cold pack on the spot for five minutes Northampton reduces the redness, and I’ve stopped using the post‑injection cream that came with the syringe because it seemed to make the itch worse. My HRV has gone up, but I still keep an eye on the injection area and let my nurse know if anything feels off.

I found that using a 26‑g needle instead of 25‑g gave me a smoother feel and less thigh tightness. I also shifted to the inner thigh tip, which is less active and tends to stay softer. After each shot I do a quick 20‑second compression with a firm but gentle pressure, no massage, just a solid squeeze. Warm water soaked towel for a minute helps calm the redness. Still, I keep an eye on it an
  • busy_dad: I’ve also tried the 26‑g needle and it definitely feels smoother on my thigh. The inner thigh spot works well for me too, and a quick compression after the shot keeps the redness down. Good tip on the warm towel, I’ll give that a try next time 🙌
  • amber464: Thanks, I’ve been using a 25‑g needle and a quick cold pack. 26‑g might cut the pain a bit more. I didn’t try a warm towel yet – I’ll give it a go next time. How long do you compress after injection to keep the redness down? Also, has your HRV changed with the new setup?
  • amber464: Thanks for the tips. I’ve stuck with the 25‑g needle and 30‑second light massage, but didn’t try a 26‑g or inner thigh tip yet. I’d like to try the 26‑g and the compression instead of massage, jek. Also, I haven’t used the warm towel; you mentioned it calms redness after a minute. I’ll swap my cold pack for a warm one next injection and see if the redness clears faster.
