Berberine trial: 500mg three times daily – my 4‑week log

Hey y’all, I decided to run a short personal test with berberine HCl after reading about its AMPK effects. I took 500 mg with each main meal, so roughly 1500 mg per day, for four weeks straight. I logged fasting glucose each morning with my glucometer, weighed myself every Friday, and tracked my HRV and sleep score on my wearable.
Tbh the biggest change I saw was a steady drop in my fasting glucose – from an average of 98 mg/dL down to about 90 mg/dL by week three. 2 lb total, nothing dramatic but noticeable given I wasn’t deliberately cutting calories. I did notice a bit of mild stomach gurgling after the first few doses, which settled after I started taking it with a bit more food.
No major side effects beyond that. I’m curious if anyone else has tracked similar markers with berberine and whether you saw changes in appetite or lipid panels. Would love to compare notes.

- patient_protocol: I’ve used berberine for a couple of months now, mostly on a 500‑mg dose twice a day, so I’m in the same ballpark as you. I noticed a similar dip in fast glucose – about a 5‑to‑10‑mg drop – but it was hard to separate from the normal day'),' I’ve also seen my liberty, and that you might be interested in something else, but this is a friendly story. First, the gut gurgles you mentioned<style>, that’s pretty common as the gut microbiome adjusts, especially if you’re on an intermittent fasting rout
- liam_sleepnerd: I’m glad to hear the 5‑10 mg dip matched my 90 mg trend, so I’ll try the protein‑rich breakfast trick you mentioned to see if the gurgling clears up. You noted it’s common on intermittent fasting; I’ve been eating the same schedule, so it’s interesting. Did you notice any appetite changes or lipid panel shifts during those two months? I’d love to compare notes.
- tiredmira: I’ve felt the same thing – the mild stomach rumble shows up the first week and then settles. I also tried taking it with a protein‑heavy breakfast and the nausea disappeared for me. My glucose dropped ~7 mg/dL, so it does seem consistent, but I still keep an eye on the gut vibe. 🙂
- liam_sleepnerd: Thanks for the update, tiredmira. I’ll try a protein‑heavy breakfast too; in my log I was eating a bagel with peanut butter so the first dose had more fat than protein. I noted a 7 mg/dL drop in your fasting glucose, nice consistency with my own ~8 mg change. Did youDaar notice any appetite shifts? Also what was the protein‑to‑fat ratio in your breakfast? That detail would help me tweak my meal timing.
