Got Itchy Injection Sites with Sermorelin – any tips?

Not gonna lie, the first time I shot my Sermorelin from the compounding pharmacy, it felt like a tiny, sharp pinch and then 20 minutes later I had this bright red, itchy spot on my right lower abdomen. 5 inches across and it kept itching for a couple of hours. I read that injection site reaction is a known side effect and that it usually subsides quickly.

I tried warming the area with a hot water bottle, but it didn’t help much. I switched to a smaller 27 gauge needle and rotated sites to the left side next time, and the reaction was milder, just a faint bruise that faded in a day. I’ve been taking 200 mcg daily before bed, no flushing or headaches so far, but I’m still wondering if this itching might be a mild allergic response or just my skin’s reaction to the peptide.

Anyone else have had similar trigger points? I’ve been checking my bloodwork for thyroid and liver function just to stay on the safe side. Any advice on technique or prep to keep the injection sites calm?

  • amber464: I’ve been there with the itchy spots too. The first time I tried a 27‑gauge I had a red, itchy patch about 5 inches wide, and it lasted a few hours. I started prepning the skin with 70 % isopropyl before the injection and let it dry completely; that seemed to cut the irritation down. I also kept the injection site clean, then applied a cool gel pack for 10‑15 min afterward. I still rotate the lower abdomen so I’m not using the same spot every night. Do you find the itching goes away faster if y
  • derek572: Totally feel you. I’ve used 70 % isopropyl and let it air‑dry before injecting and it really lessened the redness for me. I also put a cool gel pack on for about ten minutes right after the shot. Waiting a day or two between doses sometimes cuts the itch down a bit, but I haven’t really tested different syringes yet. How long do you wait normally?
  • luis295: I’ve tried spacing the injections two days apart, but the itch didn’t really shorten, fwiw. The needle size and prep seem to carry more weight. I’ve noticed a 29‑gauge needle can be gentler, and the cool compress after the shot always eases the redness more quickly. Rotation still does the trick.
  • brandon245: Thanks for the input. I’ve been using 27‑gauge and warming, so I’ll switch to a 29‑gauge and try a cool compress right after the shot. Do you keep the compress on for a set time or just until the redness subsides? Also, I’ve been trends that alcohol wipes/cgi? Actually I’m curious if you’ve seen any benefit from using a different antiseptic like chlorhexidine.
  • brandon245: Not gonna lie, the 70% iso helped but didn’t stop the itch entirely, still got that red spot, just smaller. Tried the cool gel pack last time, felt like it slowed the spread a bit. As for waiting, I usually space doses 24-48 hours now, but Derek, you think stretching it out further would make a difference? Curious if the body needs more time to process the peptide.
