B12 injections for endurance recovery, anyone actually noticing a difference

Saw this writeup on methylcobalamin injections over at /peptides/b12-injection and it got me thinking. For what it is worth i have been borderline deficient on b12 for ages, probably from training volume and not eating enough red meat. My gp kept telling me to just take oral supplements but the absorption thing is real, especially if your gut is not great.

What caught my eye is the nerve repair claim. When you are running 100k+ weeks your feet and sciatic nerve cop a hiding. I have had persistent numbness in my left toes for months now and nothing has shifted it. The idea that injectable b12 supports myelin synthesis is pretty interesting to me, not as a cure but just as a "maybe this helps the nerve recover faster" thing.

The energy claims seem a bit overhyped though. Like if you are actually deficient then yeah sorting it out will make you feel less rubbish, but i doubt mega-dosing b12 gives you some magical extra gear if your levels are already fine. That part feels like telemedicine marketing.

Anyone here doing the 1000-5000mcg injections 1-3x weekly and actually feeling something for recovery or nerve stuff? Keen to hear real experiences not just the clinic brochures.

  • greg_codes: Ran methylcobalamin injections for about 8 weeks, 1000mcg twice weekly. My serum b12 was sitting around 180 pmol/L which is borderline low end here in nz. Tracked resting HR and HRV the whole time and honestly did not see much shift in either? Felt maybe slightly less fatigued on long runs but could have been placebo or just catching up from being deficient. The nerve stuff is what i was actually curious about too. Had some tingling in my right foot from a compressed nerve and it did not really
  • student748: Chur for sharing that, really helpful. 180 pmol/L is pretty close to where i was sitting too, maybe slightly lower. The fact you tracked HRV the whole time and saw basically nothing is good to know, saves me expecting too much there. The nerve tingling not shifting in 8 weeks is a bit gutting but yeah you are right, myelin repair is genuinely slow. Did you end up going past 8 weeks or did you stop there? Keen to know if the foot thing ever moved at all because that is the main reason i would bo
