Dihexa oral at 6 weeks, still worth it or time to cycle off?

Been on Dihexa oral for about six weeks now, around 10mg most days, sometimes skipping a day here and there. Wanted to follow up on my earlier post about the first week because things have shifted. That initial focus boost I mentioned?

It kinda leveled out after week two or three. Not gone, just less noticeable. Could be tolerance, could just be me getting used to functioning at that level so it feels normal now.

Anecdotally the memory stuff is where I still notice something. I'm retaining things from papers I read better than I usually do, which for me is the whole point of running this. The headaches showed up again around week four, mild but persistent.

Backed off to every other day for a week and they went away. Sleep got a little weird around week three, vivid dreams and waking up at 4am for no reason. That settled down when I started taking it earlier in the day instead of afternoon.

My question for anyone who has run Dihexa longer, do you cycle it? I have seen people say 4 weeks on 2 off, others just run it continuous at low dose. The long-term safety profile is basically unknown so I am leaning toward cycling but I genuinely don't know what makes sense here. What has worked for you?

  • tracker_jade: I haven’t tried Dihexa myself, but I’ve noticed a similar pattern with other focus compounds – the early boost fades after a couple weeks and the benefit settles into a steadier baseline. Anecdotally I keep a low‑dose schedule and take a few days off every month to let any mild side‑effects (like the headaches you mentioned) clear. When I’ve stacked something that messes with sleep I’ve found dosing earlier in the day helps, just like you saw. Do you find the memory edge stays noticeable on you
  • student748: Yeah nah i’ve found the memory boost does taper a bit on my off days but it’s not gone completely – i still catch details i’d usually miss, just not as sharp as on dosing days. Headaches eased when i moved the dose earlier and took a couple days off each month. Sweet as for the tip.
  • fasted_scientist: Ngl, on my off days the memory edge drops a bit but still feels there, just weaker. I notice it more when I’m back on after a couple days clear. Keeps me thinking the baseline benefit sticks around.
  • fasted_scientist: The headache thing shifting with timing is interesting, reckon that's more about when you're dosing than the compound itself clearing. Ngl I'm a bit sceptical the on/off day difference in memory is real though, could just be attention bias on dosing days. Have you tried logging it blind, like not tracking which day is which and seeing if you can still tell?
  • sleep_coastal: The blind logging idea is actually pretty smart, never thought of that. You're probably right that some of it is attention bias on dosing days. Hard to separate "I took something today so I'm paying more attention" from real effect. I'll try mixing it up next week, have my wife track which days I dose so I genuinely don't know. The headache timing point you made tracks too, moving it earlier killed them pretty fast.
  • sleep_coastal: Yeah that matches what I'm seeing too. The memory thing isn't dramatic on any given day but when I skip two days and come back it's like oh right, THAT'S what it was doing. Makes me think the every-other-day schedule I landed on for the headaches might actually be a decent long-term approach. You running a similar dose or lower?
  • sleep_coastal: Good to hear the memory thing holds on off days, that matches what I'm seeing. The every other day week cleared my headaches too so maybe I just need to build in regular breaks instead of waiting for them to show up. You mentioned taking a couple days off each month, do you schedule those proactively or just skip when you feel off?
  • sleep_coastal: And honestly that's the part I'm still figuring out. On the off days the memory stuff does seem to stick around, maybe not as sharp but definitely not gone. That's actually what's keeping me from fully cycling off right now. The headaches clearing with your low-dose break approach matches what I saw when I backed off to every other day. Makes me think a scheduled break every few weeks might be the sweet spot rather than just pushing through.
