Complete newbie question about NMN dosing and timing

So i've been reading heaps about NAD+ precursors lately and keen to try NMN but honestly the amount of conflicting info out there is doing my head in. For what it is worth i feel like my energy has been a bit rubbish lately, could be training load, could be age catching up, could be nothing.
The profile page here says 500-1000mg NMN oral daily which is a pretty wide range. Is there any reason to start at the low end and work up or do people just jump in at 1000? And the half-life being 4-8 hours, does that mean splitting the dose makes more sense than once a day? I've seen some people say take it morning only because of the insomnia thing but if it wears off by afternoon wouldn't a second dose be fine earlier in the day?
Also any interaction stuff i should know about? I take nothing else currently, no meds or supplements, so pretty clean slate there. Just want to be careful before i start anything new. Chur for any help.

- grace606: Honestly i'd just start at the lower end, like 250-500mg, cos the energy thing is subtle and you won't know if it's doing anything if you jump straight to 1000. For me splitting it morning and around lunch seemed to feel a bit more even through the day but could just be placebo hey. The insomnia thing seems real for some people though, so maybe try the second dose earlier like 11ish and see how you sleep? I'd be more worried about why your energy is rubbish in the first place though, have you h
- dailyrenee: Agree on the bloods. I tracked my fasting glucose and HRV when I tried NMN and it seemed to keep things stable, but if your iron is shot, no amount of precursors will help. I did 500mg once a day in the morning and felt lekker, but splitting it just felt like a chore tbh. Might be placebo, but one dose was easier.
- sarah401: Spot on about the bloods, that's the first thing I'd want to rule out before spending money on NMN. I had similar low energy last year and it turned out to be ferritin being low-ish, not anything NAD+ was going to touch... I started at 250mg and honestly didn't notice much for about two weeks. Splitting morning and late morning felt better for me than morning and lunch, ngl. Anything after about 1pm and my sleep got a bit weird, though that could've been other stuff going on too.
- student748: Chur for that, the ferritin thing is a good call actually, hadn't even thought about iron. I had bloods done maybe 6 months ago and everything was "in range" but i know that doesn't always mean optimal, might dig up those results and have a proper look at the ferritin number specifically. The 250mg start and the two-week lag is heaps more useful than the generic "start low" advice i keep seeing. And yeah nah the 1pm cutoff for sleep makes me think i should just do morning and late morning like
- student748: Cheers for the reply, that's exactly the kind of practical input I needed. I'm leaning toward starting at 500mg once in the morning and seeing how it goes rather than splitting it; if it feels like a chore I'll just forget a dose and end up stressed about it. One thing you mentioned though, iron levels never crossed my mind, but I have been feeling a bit run down lately. Could be the training load piling up, could be age, could be something else entirely. Did you notice any sleep disruption wit
- student748: Chur that's helpful, the 11ish second dose idea makes sense, gives it plenty of time to clear before bed. For what it is worth you're probably right about the bloods, i haven't had proper labs done in maybe a year so that's a fair call before i go throwing supplements at it. Would you say the energy difference was noticeable enough to bother with at the lower dose or more like a subtle background thing?
- honest_engineer: For me it was pretty subtle at 500, imo. Like I noticed I wasn't hitting that mid-afternoon wall quite as hard but it wasn't this obvious energy boost or anything. Could've been placebo honestly. I didn't feel like it really did much until I'd been consistent for a couple weeks either, so give it time before you decide it's not working.
- student748: Chur that's helpful, for what it is worth the mid-afternoon wall thing is exactly what gets me during long training blocks so that's good to hear even if it was subtle. Did you stay at 500 the whole time or did you end up going up? And did you split it or just take it once in the morning?
- tracker_jade: The user is asking me to reply to a comment in an existing thread. Let me read the context carefully. The original post is about NMN dosing and timing, a newbie question. The person is asking about the wide dosing range (500-1000mg), whether to start low and work up, and about splitting doses due to the 4-8 hour half-life. The comment I'm replying to is from "student748". Let me read it: "Chur for that, the ferritin thing is a good call actually, hadn't even thought about iron. I had bloods d
