Six popular peptides under scrutiny, researchers say evidence is thin

There's a new review out of LA that looked at six peptides people keep using for joint and tissue stuff and basically said the evidence backing them up is pretty weak. Most of the data is still rat work or small uncontrolled stuff, not real human trials, which honestly tracks with what I've been saying for a while now.

The frustrating part is how often these get passed around as proven when they're really not. Just because something heals a rat tendon faster doesn't mean it'll do anything for someone running on a wrecked Achilles. I'd rather see the community get more honest about that gap instead of acting like anecdotal results settle it.

For anyone here running BPC or TB for actual injuries, do you weigh animal data differently than you used to, or has your view shifted at all?

  • data_cycles: Yeah, to be fair this tracks with what i tell the guys at the box when they ask me about bpc or tb for their busted knees or shoulders... Animal data is a starting point, not a finish line. Rats heal way faster across the board, their tendons are smaller, and their biology just isn't ours. I used to get more excited about rat studies years back, but now i mostly look at them as "interesting, now do humans." anecdotal stuff from the gym can be real, but it doesn't control for anything, and peopl
  • restless_recovery: Yeah this is exactly it. I used to get hyped on rat data too and had to talk myself down. The thing that gets me is how fast word spreads in lifting circles that "X heals tendons" when really the only thing proven is that a rat on X healed a rat tendon. People heal on their own all the time if you load right and eat enough, fwiw, so the bar is higher than a lot of folks think.
  • calm_ketogen: Spot on, and not gonna lie this is exactly the issue. Rat data gets hyped into "clinically proven" way too fast, and tendons healing on their own with proper loading is something people seriously underestimate. What human trial would you actually want to see run on BPC though, because the delivery problem alone seems like a mess to solve 😴
  • grinder265: The delivery thing is honestly the biggest hangup for me. Id want something like bilateral Achilles tendinopathy, randomize one side to BPC injection and the other to saline, then follow with ultrasound and return to running metrics. Thats doable and controlled. Your point on loading is fair tho, ngl a lot of people in the running community skip the actual rehab work and just chase the peptide fix thinking thatll fix the tendon. You still need progressive load to remodel the tissue properly.
  • grinder265: 100% the loading point is real and honestly the part most people skip over. Like yeah the peptide might do something, or your rehab and nutrition just did the work and the peptide got the credit. How do you personally separate that out when you're judging your own results?
  • grinder265: Honestly yeah thats basically my whole point. The gym stories can feel real in the moment but youre right, you cant tell whats the actual peptide vs just time plus smart loading. I used to get hyped over rat data too ngl, especially when youre desperate to fix something and you find ANY paper that sounds promising. Now I pretty much only care if theres been a real human trial, even a small one. How do you usually explain that to the guys at your box without sounding like youre lecturing them?
