Methylene blue for afternoon focus, anyone else try this?

So ive been digging into methylene blue lately after reading the profile here on ResearchSafe, and the mitochondrial angle really grabbed me because i tend to crash hard around 3pm no matter how solid my sleep is.

My plan is to start low, like maybe 0.5 mg/kg and titrate from there, mostly on work days when i need to push through reports and data analysis. Im curious about the auto oxidation cycling piece because the MAO inhibition could matter for me since i dont take SSRIs but i do drink coffee and occasionally use racetams.

For those who have actually used it, how did it feel different from a typical stimulant? Did it feel more like steady clarity or just a wake up slap? And did anyone stack it with anything from the Semax family or is that overkill?

Also one thing i want to mention, i know it turns your pee blue and thats apparently harmless, but my partner already thinks im weird about supplements so this is gonna be fun to explain lol. Any practical tips from people whove done a real run would be great, especially around timing and whether the half life means i should keep doses smaller and more frequent instead of one bigger one.

  • earlydominic: Honestly the 3pm crash sounds more like a circadian dip plus blood sugar than a mitochondrial problem to me. Methylene blue might smooth it but I would look at lunch composition and a 20 minute walk first, the data on those is actually decent. On the dosing question, smaller more frequent seems smarter based on what I have read. Half life is short and the auto oxidation cycling only works if the redox state actually flips back, so flooding it in one go probably wastes a lot. I have not stacked
  • skeptical_sleep: Haha fair point about the circadian thing, i do usually eat a sandwich at my desk and call that lunch so thats probably half the problem right there. Will try adding a walk before blaming my mitochondria lol. The smaller doses more often angle makes sense actually, i was kind of planning to take it all upfront with my coffee. Maybe splitting it morning and early afternoon would actually keep the cycling going better. How often are you dosing when you use it? ๐Ÿง
  • zoe597: Circadian dip plus a walk actually rings true for me too, anecdotally. Blood sugar never even crossed my mind though, that is a fair point. Do you have any links on the redox flip back bit? That is the part I keep going round in circles on. ๐Ÿ’ช
  • skeptical_sleep: To be honest i dont have a clean link handy, mostly pieced it together from a few review papers on mitochondrial electron carriers and some older stuff on thionine/ MB photochemistry. The gist i remember is that MB gets reduced to leucomethylene blue by complex I and then reoxidised when it hands off electrons downstream, so it keeps shuttling rather than getting used up. I can dig through my bookmarks later and post whatever is still up if you want, but yeah the redox cycling bit is what sold m
