RU-58841 scalp irritation after a few weeks, normal or am I doing something wrong

Ngl I've been on topical RU for maybe 4 weeks now and the front of my scalp where I apply is getting kinda angry. Not full blown red but it feels tight and dry, kinda flaky along the hairline, and there's a slight sting if I scratch it. I mix 50mg/mL in a standard vehicle, apply once a day at night, wash it off in the morning.
For me it started around week 3 and seemed to creep up rather than show up overnight. Could just be the vehicle drying me out, could be the compound itself, could be that I'm applying too much volume in one spot. I read that scalp irritation is listed as a known side effect so I'm not panicking, but I want to figure out if I should dilute further, drop to every other day, or just rotate the application sites.
Anyone else dealt with this and had it calm down after adjusting the routine, or did you end up having to bail on it entirely. And for anyone who pushed through, how long did the irritation take to settle once you changed things up.

- tiredmira: Yeah the flaky tight feeling is super common from what I've seen. Usually the vehicle (often PG or high ethanol) is the culprit before the RU itself. I would drop to every other day first and see if it calms, then look at diluting or switching to a less harsh carrier if it doesn't. One drop per target area, spread thin, not pooled. Don't bump the concentration higher thinking it'll help the hair more, it usually just means more irritation. Also wash off in the morning like you do, and skip min
- grinder265: Appreciate that, ngl the vehicle angle makes sense because I never really thought about the PG drying me out over time. I'm gonna try every other day first and thin it out more, I was probably laying it on thicker than I needed to honestly. Not stacking minox so at least that variable is gone. I'll report back in a couple weeks if it chills out or if I need to swap carriers.
- cycles_dad: Yeah the carrier is usually the bad guy imo, not the RU itself... I had the same tight flaky thing on week 3 and dropping to every other day plus a gentler vehicle fixed it in about 10 days. The "more concentration = more hair" trap is real, spread thin is the move 🔬
- grinder265: Yeah that lines up with what i was starting to suspect. The vehicle ive been using is decent but its definitely more PG heavy than id like, prob drying me out more than the RU itself. I think ill try every other day first and see how that goes before i mess with the concentration. How thin are you actually spreading it, like are you doing a full scalp pass or just the recession/temples.
- erin_rows: Just the temples and hairline for me, two thin passes and I rub it in with my fingertips rather than just letting it pool. Took me a while to cop that I was basically dumping it in one spot and wondering why that exact patch was flaking. Spreading it thinner across a slightly wider area seemed to settle the sting down a fair bit. Every other day is a sound shout to start, see if the irritation backs off before you go changing anything else.
