A pharmacist actually walking through the RFK peptide reclassification

Pharmacy Times put out a solid breakdown of what RFK Jr's peptide announcement really means in practice. The piece runs through which peptides are on the rumored reclassification list, including BPC-157, Selank, Semax, and a handful of others that come up constantly on these boards, and a pharmacist gives her read on what's actually likely to change vs what's just noise.
What I appreciated is she doesn't pretend reclassification equals FDA approval. It just means the compounding path opens up again, which is a very different bar than actual safety and efficacy data. The cognitive ones like Selank and Semax especially, the evidence base is mostly Russian clinical work that has never been replicated in US trials. I have tried Selank intranasally for a few weeks and honestly felt a subtle calm-focus shift, but I have no idea if that was real or just me wanting it to work ðŸ§
Curious if anyone here is following the regulatory angle closely, do you think this actually moves the needle on access or just shifts the gray market into a slightly more official gray market?

- weekendnate: Genuinely The distinction between compounding access and real FDA approval is the part most people on these boards gloss over, and a pharmacist laying it out is more useful than another armchair take. On Selank, I got a similar subtle calm-focus thing but I also got that with a cheap L-theanine + caffeine stack, so who knows. Russian clinical work being unreplicated in US trials is kind of the whole story with the nootropic peptides. Replicated properly would mean actual FDA submissions, which
- patient_codes: Yeah the L-theanine + caffeine comparison is kinda where I landed too honestly, same subtle calm-focus without spending the money or worrying about whether what I got was even legit. I am mostly just mad at myself for not trying the boring stack first 🧠And yeah, the FDA filing point is exactly it. If someone actually submitted a proper IND on Selank, we would have real answers instead of forum threads.
- rachel_ketogen: Yeah this is the thing. Most people hear "FDA approved now" in their head when reclassification gets announced, and thats just not what it means. The bar is way lower and the compounding pharmacy could literally make whatever concentration they want. The selank point is fair tho, the calm-focus thing is real but its also kinda just... What GABA modulators do. L-theanine nailed the same feeling for me at a fraction of the price and i can get it anywhere 😅
- patient_codes: The L-theanine comparison is fair honestly, I actually keep some in my tea rotation already, you're right that the overlap is real. The only thing I'd push back on a tiny bit is the "fraction of the price" part, because for me the nasal route hits different and faster than oral anything, even if the subjective effect is similar. Curious if you ever tried any of the nootropic peptides yourself or if L-theanine just covered it for you?
