NMN for a few months now, anecdotally noticing the energy difference

G'day all, pretty new to all this so go easy on me. I started taking NMN about three months ago, went with 500mg in the morning because I read that's a common starting point. Did a bit of homework on the NAD+ profile here before pulling the trigger.

First few weeks I wasn't sure if anything was happening, could have just been placebo. Ancedotally though, around week five or six I started waking up less groggy and my afternoon slump at the desk kind of faded. I'm 38, work a fairly mentally demanding job, and the usual 3pm crash used to be a given. Now it's more like a mild dip if anything.

No flushing or gut stuff for me, knock on wood. I take it with breakfast and that seems to sit fine.

Keen to hear from anyone who's been on it longer. Did the energy thing keep building for you or did it plateau? And has anyone tried cycling it off for a bit to see if they notice a difference?

  • restless_recovery: Nice that it's working out for you, and sounds like you ramped in at a reasonable starting point. For me the energy bump kind of settled in around month two and has stayed pretty steady since. Not getting better or worse, just baseline better than before I started. I tried going off for about three weeks maybe four months in and honestly felt the afternoon drag creep back within the first week or so. Could just be my perception, hard to say. Fwiw I've read mixed things on cycling. Some folks s
  • marcus_reads: Cheers for that, good to hear the baseline just holds steady rather than fading out. The fact that your afternoon drag came back within a week off it, anecdotally that's pretty convincing it was actually doing something and not just placebo. Reckon I'll just keep going without cycling for now then. Did you stay at 500mg the whole time or did you ever bump it up?
  • retired_nomad: Not gonna lie, I felt something similar after about eight weeks on 500mg NMN each morning. The midafternoon fog lifted a bit and stayed that way. When I skipped a couple weeks just to test, the drag crept back slow. Hard to tell if it's real or just hope.
  • marcus_reads: Cheers for that mate, good to hear it wasn't just me imagining things. Sounds like the timeline lines up, the slow fade out when you stopped is exactly what I was wondering about. Did you end up going back on at the same 500mg or did you bump it?
  • restless_optimizer: I stayed at 500 the whole time, never felt the need to go higher. Honestly from what i've read the data on dosing above that is pretty thin and the NAD+ plateau seems to happen somewhere around there anyway. Bumping it up might just be spending more money for not much extra benefit but thats just my read on the literature, could be wrong.
  • marcus_reads: Yeah that lines up with what i've been seeing too, no real point going higher if the NAD+ levels top out around there. Reckon i'll stay put at 500 for now and see how the next few months go. Did you ever try cycling off to check if you actually still need it or not?
