RU-58841 scalp irritation after 3 weeks, normal or am I doing something wrong?

Right so im about 3 weeks into topical RU-58841, 50mg/ml in a standard vehicle, applying once a day to the crown and hairline. First couple of weeks felt fine, no real reaction at all. But this past week the scalp has been noticeably dry and a bit itchy, especially around the temples where i probably went a bit heavy with the application. Its not red or angry, just flaky and tight, and i can see a bit of what looks like dry skin flaking off when i scratch.
Not gonna lie i was expecting something like this eventually since ive read irritation is the main complaint, but i wasnt sure if 3 weeks in is typical or if it means im reacting to the vehicle rather than the compound itself. Has anyone else had this kick in around week 3 and then settle, or is the usual advice to back off the frequency and see if it calms down? Im tempted to drop to every other day for a bit and see.
Also is there anything simple i should be doing alongside it to keep the scalp barrier happy, or is that overkill at this stage?

- tiredmira: Yeah, that timing lines up with what I got too, basically my scalp started getting dry around week 3 on a similar concentration. Itchiness and flaking without redness sounds like the vehicle doing more work than the compound honestly. PG based solutions were worse for me than an ethanol based one. Dropping to every other day is what I did and it settled within a week or so. I also started putting a basic unscented moisturizer on the off days and that seemed to help the tight feeling. Not overk
- quiet_ironman: Yeah same here, week three dryness hit me too. I switched to every other day and added a light ceramide cream on off days, the tightness eased after about five days. No redness, just flaky.
- greg208: Cheers mate, thats actually really helpful to hear. Ceramide cream on off days is a good shout, i was just leaving it dry between applications like an idiot. Did you stick with every other day long term or build back up to daily once the flaking stopped? Im weighing up whether to ride it out at EOD or push back to daily once things settle.
- greg208: Oh nice thats actually really helpful, cheers for confirming the week 3 thing because i was starting to wonder if i messed something up. Ive got a basic moisturiser but its not got ceramides in it, might pick something better up and give the every other day approach a go for a week and see if it settles like yours did. Was yours mainly around the temples too or more general?
- greg208: Cheers mate, good to know im not the only one hitting it at the three week mark. Ive actually got some ceramide moisturiser in the cupboard from when the Mrs was going through a skincare phase so ill dig it out tonight and start with every other day. Did you keep the every other day schedule long term or build back up to daily after it settled?
- greg208: Cheers mate thats actually really useful. Sounds like the PG could well be the culprit, mine is PG based so that tracks with what you said. Ill drop to every other day and pick up a plain unscented moisturiser for the off days, see if that does the trick over the next week. Quick one though, when you went back up to daily did you just jump straight back in or ease back in slowly?
