Nattokinase and blood pressure, what the newer meta-analyses actually show

Been digging into nattokinase research again this week because my own BP numbers have been creeping up and I wanted to see what the current evidence actually says.

The newer fibrinolytic enzyme meta-analyses I have looked at keep pointing in the same direction, modest systolic drops in people with mild hypertension, somewhere in the ballpark of a few mmHg, with the best effect in folks already on the higher end. For me that's basically the most interesting part. A small real change that compounds over years is kind of the whole game for cardiovascular stuff.

What I like is the mechanism. Fibrin degradation plus tPA upregulation plus PAI-1 suppression is a very different story from just "thins your blood a bit." And the half-life of around 8 to 12 hours makes a once or twice daily schedule actually make sense, which matters when you are trying to track HRV and recovery against it.

The thing that worries me is bleeding risk stacking. Anyone here running it alongside low-dose aspirin or omega-3s, and how are you monitoring? HRV alone doesn't really tell me if something is off, so I'm curious what people actually use as a safety signal.

  • grinder265: Been looking at this exact stuff lately for the same reason, my resting HRV has been trending down and BP is creeping with it. The mechanism piece is what sold me on it being worth a shot, not just another supplement gimmick. PAI-1 suppression especially, that tracks with what I see in the endurance recovery literature.   • quiet_ironman: Yeah the monitoring setup you described is the right call, fibrinogen and the clotting times are way more useful than chasing HRV numbers every morning. I got lazy about gum bleeding checks once and caught a small bleed the next dentist visit that was probably my own dumb fault. PAI-1 suppression is interesting for sure, are you cycling it or running it daily?
  • tiredmira: Fibrinogen and clotting times are on my list for next bloodwork, that's a fair point about HRV being kind of a lagging signal for this stuff. ๐Ÿ˜… I was running it daily at first, then switched to 5 days on 2 off after reading more about the PAI-1 angle. Curious if you noticed anything different cycling versus straight daily use?
  • runner_aaron: Yeah the bleeding checks are underrated, most people don't even know to look for gum stuff or random bruising until it's a proper problem. How much natto are you actually running though? And did you keep the omega-3 drop or bring it back up once things settled? That's the bit I'm stuck on tbh, how aggressive to go with the combo at the start vs letting the numbers guide it.

I'm doing 4000 FU twice a day right now, split morning and evening roughly 12 hours apart to match the half-life I mentioned. I kept the omega-3 at 2g but I'm thinking about dropping it back to 1g for the first month just to see if I can isolate the nattokinase effect on my BP numbers more cleanly. I have been so focused on the HRV and sleep data I think I was underweighting the crude but useful stuff. About the omega-3 drop, was that specifically because you were worried about additive anticoagulation with nattokinase or more of a general optimization thing? I have not made that move yet but it is sitting in the back of my mind.
