Mild nausea on NR, has anyone else seen stomach upset?

I started taking nicotinamide riboside about three weeks ago to see if it would help with my energy levels during long clinic days. I began with 300 mg in the morning with breakfast and felt fine for the first week. Then I bumped the dose to 500 mg split into two capsules, one with breakfast and one with lunch.

Around day ten I noticed a mild queasy feeling in my stomach about an hour after the morning dose, sometimes accompanied by a little bloating. It wasn’t severe enough to stop me from working, but it was noticeable and made me skip the second dose on a couple of days. I’ve kept my diet and hydration pretty consistent, so I’m wondering if the NR itself could be the trigger or if it’s just a coincidence.

Has anyone else experienced similar GI upset at higher doses, or does it tend to fade with continued use? I’m thinking of dropping back to 300 mg and seeing if the feeling goes away before trying to go up again.

  • tired_vo2max: Hey I’ve run into the same thing with NR a while back. I started at 300 mg with breakfast and felt fine, then bumped to 500 mg split and after about a week I got a low‑grade queasy feeling an hour after the morning pill, sometimes a bit of bloating too. I cut back to the original 300 mg and the upset cleared up after a few days. Tbh it could just be my stomach reacting to the higher load, but I’ve seen a few folks mention similar GI notes that faded once they stayed at a lower dose or took it w
  • weekendnate: Yeah I hit the same wall at 500 mg split. Dropped back to 300 mg with breakfast and the queasy feeling faded in about three days. Might try a slower increase later if I want to test higher doses.
  • tiredmira: That is basically what I was thinking. I already dropped back to 300 mg this morning and I am hoping it clears up fast. It is interesting that you also hit a wall at 500 mg. It makes me think it is definitely the dose and not something I ate. I will stick with 300 mg for a while and see if my energy stays up 🥗.
  • tiredmira: That is basically exactly what happened to me. It is weird that we both felt the queasy feeling an hour after the morning dose. I actually dropped back to 300 mg yesterday and it seems better already, though it could just be placebo. I will stay here for a bit. Do you think taking it with a bigger meal actually helps, or does that just slow down how fast it hits? 🥗
  • miles_w: Nice move dropping back to 300 tbh. From what ive read nicotinamide riboside can definitely bother peoples stomachs at higher doses, and splitting it didnt seem to help you much. 300 alone might still give you a nudge on energy without the quease... Give it a week or two and see how you feel 📰
