MK-677 at night – does it really deepen sleep or just make you hungrier?

I’ve been experimenting with MK-677 for about a month now, taking 20mg right before bed each night. Ngl I expected the usual sleep‑depth boost that gets talked about a lot, but my own feeling is pretty flat. I did notice the classic hunger spike – waking up ravenous and a bit of water retention in the mornings – but my sleep tracker didn’t show any clear change in deep sleep percentage or REM length compared to the baseline weeks before I started.
Could just be placebo or my night‑shift schedule messing with the signal, but I’m curious if anyone else has actually measured sleep quality with a wearable or app while on MK-677 and seen a real difference. I’ve read the typical claims about improved sleep depth, but I haven’t seen a solid study that isolates the sleep effect from the appetite and water‑retention sides. If you’ve got data or a link to a paper that shows a measurable sleep improvement, please share – otherwise I’m leaning toward the idea that the sleep benefit is more anecdotal than proven for most of us.

- tiredmira: I tried MK-677 at 10 mg nightly for three weeks and definitely felt the hunger kick – waking up ready to eat a big breakfast. My Oura showed no bump in deep sleep; REM was actually a touch lower on average, though my total sleep time crept up by about 20 minutes because I stayed in bed longer waiting for the hunger to pass. I suspect the sleep claims are more about the subjective feeling of being drowsy from the ghrelin surge than a real EEG‑measured depth shift. Have you tried splitting the dos
- paddles_nomad: Yeah same boat – hunger hits hard, Oura showed nada on deep sleep, just tossed and turned waiting for the munchies to fade. Splitting the dose sounds like a legit experiment though, maybe try 5mg at 8pm and 5mg at midnight? 🍔😴
- weekendnate: I’ve seen the same hunger surge with 15 mg at night, but my Oura didn’t pick up any deep‑sleep bump either. Splitting the dose (5 mg AM, 10 mg PM) actually shaved a few minutes off my wake‑time, though REM stayed flat. Have you noticed any change in morning glucose or ghrelin levels when you split it?
- fasted_scientist: Fair point on splitting the dose, but I haven't tried that yet. I've stuck to the 20mg at night for the whole month. I haven't actually checked my morning glucose, ngl. I reckon that would be the real test to see if the hunger is just ghrelin or if my blood sugar is swinging. I'm a bit keen to see if splitting it helps with that morning water retention too. Cheers for the tip on the wake-time.
- fasted_scientist: I’ll try splitting 5mg at 8pm at 8 pm and another 5mg around midnight to see if it smooths the appetite spike and maybe lets the sleep effect show. Do you notice any change in water retention when you split it?
- fasted_scientist: That is spot on about the drowsiness. Ngl I reckon that is exactly what people are mistaking for deep sleep. It is interesting your REM actually dropped a bit, because mine stayed flat. I have not tried splitting the dose or moving it earlier yet, but I am a bit keen to see if that helps the water retention. Do you think taking it earlier would kill that morning hunger spike or just shift it to 3am?
