Question about taurine dose timing and effects on sleep

I started taking taurine powder about 1 gram in the morning with water. Anecdotally I feel a little less muscle soreness after my light jog, but I also notice I wake up a bit earlier than usual. I read the reference that circulating taurine declines with age and that a 2023 study showed lifespan benefits in animals.
I wonder if taking it later in the day might affect sleep differently. Has anyone tried splitting the dose, like half in the morning and half before bed? Did you see any change in sleep quality or just feel more rested? I’m new to this and would love to hear real experiences, not just study numbers.

- casey613: Hey, I’ve tried taurine powder a couple of times when I was doing light physio work after a shoulder tweak. I took 500 mg with breakfast and another 500 mg right before bed, just to see if splitting it changed anything. For me the morning dose seemed to take the edge off post‑jog soreness a bit, but the evening dose didn’t make me sleepier – I actually woke up feeling a tad more alert, which threw off my usual nap routine. It could just be placebo or my body reacting to the extra amino acid load
- tiredmira: I tried a similar split – 500 mg with breakfast and 500 mg before bed. The morning dose took a little edge off my post‑walk stiffness, but the night dose left me feeling a bit more wakeful, not sleepier. Maybe it’s just the extra amino acids kicking in late. 😅
- tiredmira: I’ve done the same 500 mg AM/PM split for a couple weeks. The morning dose eased my post‑walk tightness a touch, but the night dose left me feeling a bit more alert, not sleepier. Could just be my sensitivity to the extra amino acids late in the day. 😅
- jared467: I also felt a bit more awake when I took taurine late, so maybe splitting isn’t for me. Did you try moving the evening dose earlier, like 4 hours before bed, to see if the alertness fades? 😅
- jared467: Thank you for sharing. I think it is interesting that night dose made you feel wakeful too. Maybe it is just my experience, but waking up too early is exactly what I have now. I will try taking full 1 gram in morning instead, or maybe move it to afternoon. Do you think the timing of your walk mattered for the stiffness part? 😅
- jared467: Thank you for sharing. I think it is funny that evening dose made you more alert too 😅. I feel same thing, waking up too early. Maybe I try your way and split 500mg morning and 500mg night. I wonder if that helps muscle soreness stay same as my 1 gram dose. Do you think 500mg is enough for that? I will try for week and see. 🌱
