My experience using PBS instead of bacteriostatic water for peptide reconstitution

I’ve been reconstituting most of my peptides with bacteriostatic water for years, but lately I ran out and decided to try phosphate buffered saline (PBS) just to see if anything changed. I used the same volume I normally would, aiming for the target concentration written on the vial. The solution looked clear and there was no precipitation, which was a relief.
Over the next week I tracked how I felt after my usual doses of BPC‑157 and TB‑500, noting any differences in soreness after training or sleep quality. For me, the effects seemed about the same – I didn’t notice extra stiffness or any unusual fatigue. I did wonder if the isotonic nature of PBS made the peptides a bit more stable during storage, but I didn’t run any formal tests, just my own notes.
Has anyone else tried PBS as a diluent and noticed anything different, good or bad? I’m curious if it’s worth keeping on hand as a backup. No?

- quiet_ironman: I’ve tried PBS a couple of times when I ran out of bac water and didn’t see any change in how BPC‑157 or TB‑500 felt for me, same soreness after workouts and sleep seemed unchanged. The thing I noticed is that PBS doesn’t have that bacteriostatic preservative, so I make sure to use the reconstituted peptide within a day or two and keep it cold just to be safe. For short‑term use it’s worked as a backup, but I’d still reach for bac water if I’m storing anything longer than a week. Just my own exp
- jared467: I also swapped to PBS once when bac water ran out; BPC‑157 felt the same for my knee soreness, but I used it within 48 h and kept it refrigerated. Anecdotally, no difference noticed. 😊
- elle_z: Yeah I’ve used PBS a few times when bac water ran out, felt no diff with BPC‑157 or TB‑500. I keep it fridge and use within 48 hrs just to be safe. ⚡
- peptidehead434: I also keep my PBS in the fridge and try to use it within two days just to be safe. Have you noticed any change in peptide clarity after longer storage, say a week?
- peptidehead434: That is interesting that you used it so quickly. I kept my BPC-157 in the fridge too, but I used the vial for about two weeks before it was empty. I didnt notice any drop in the effects for me, more or less the same as usual. Do you think the 48 hour window was because you were worried about the stability, no? I am still tracking my notes to see if it lasts longer than bac water.
- peptidehead434: I also keep my PBS‑reconstituted peptides in the fridge and try to use them within 48 hours, just like you said. Have you ever kept a batch longer than a week and noticed any loss of effect or clarity?
