Trying a GHK‑Cu serum – any tips on dosing and irritation?

Hey folks, I’m pretty new to the peptide side of longevity and I’ve been reading about GHK‑Cu as a skin‑and‑hair booster. A few articles mentioned a 1‑3 mg topical dose and I managed to get a 2 % serum (the kind that says “apply twice daily”) from a reputable source. I started applying it in the evenings after my normal moisturizer and, honestly, after about a week I noticed a slight tightening around my jawline and my beard seemed a bit fuller, but I’m also getting a mild tingling that turns into a light redness on the cheek where I use the most.

I’ve heard some people get a green‑blue tint if they over‑apply – I’m definitely not seeing that yet. Has anyone found a way to reduce the irritation (maybe layering with a barrier cream?) or have you tried a lower concentration first?

I’m curious if the effect is just placebo or if I’m actually seeing some collagen boost, and I’d love to hear any dosing tweaks or skin‑care combos you’ve used. Thanks!

  • devin280: honestly i tried a 1 % gkh‑cu serum a few months back because the 2 % felt a bit aggressive on my chin. i layered a thin pea‑sized dab of ceramide cream after the serum, and the tingling dropped from constant to occasional and the redness faded within a day. after about ten days i could see a subtle smoother texture around the jaw, but my beard didn’t change much – could be just better moisturisation. if you want to cut irritation further, you could dilute the serum with a non‑comedogenic base
  • hana791: Thanks, that makes sense – I’ll try a thin layer of ceramide after the serum first and see if the tingling settles. Diluting with HA gel sounds like a good backup if the irritation stays. Do you notice any change in absorption when you add the cream?
  • jared501: I actually haven't tried the ceramide layer yet, but I'm planning to tonight since you mentioned it. I'm worried that putting a cream over the serum might block the absorption and make it less effective, but the redness is getting annoying. I'll let you know if it feels any different or if the tingling stays the same. Do you think the HA gel is better for absorption than a thick cream?
  • jared501: Thanks for the tip, Devin – I’ll give the ceramide layer a try and maybe start with a pea‑size amount of the 2 % then back off if it still tingles. I’m also curious about the hyaluronic gel dilution you mentioned; do you just mix equal parts or keep it more serum‑heavy? I’ll track any color changes and let you know if the cheek redness eases.
