Mild Headache and Vivid Dreams with PQQ – How to Mitigate or Is it Normal?

Posted by grinder265 in Safety & Side Effects - 7 points, 4 comments.

I just started taking 10 mg of PQQ daily to boost mitochondrial health after a long training season. For the first few days I noticed a dull, throbbing headache that popped up mostly right after breakfast. Alongside that, my dreams have become unusually vivid and sometimes a bit chaotic. I’m not sure if this is a typical side effect or something I should be concerned about. I’ve read that PQQ can cause mild headaches and vivid dreams, so maybe it’s just part of the normal profile. But I want to keep my running performance stable and avoid any sleep disruption.

Do you all experience similar headaches or dream changes with PQQ? Is there a way to taper the dose or shift the timing of the dose to reduce these sensations? Would taking it earlier in the morning help, or maybe splitting the dose? Also, have you noticed any bloodwork changes (like liver enzymes or lipid panels) that I should monitor while on PQQ? Any safety tips or observation windows would be great.

  • luis677: Anecdotally i took 10 mg of PQQ after a tough season and got a dull headache in the first week, usually after bread. I split the dose in half, one in the morning before breakfast, one later at lunch, and the headache went away after a few days. The dreams stay vivid, but i felt it helped my recovery. I don’t see big liver changes, but i keep an eye on enzymes just to be safe. Would you try splitting the dose or moving it to the very early morning? How are your dreams changing?
  • patientjenna: Split the dose helped me too. I tried moving it to 30 mins before waking up and the headache stopped. Dreams still wild though. How long you take it daily? Asking because i’m on 10mg but curious if nights matter.
  • grinder265: Thanks for the split dose tip, moving it before waking stopped the headache, which is good. But dreams are still chaotic. I’ve been on 10mg for about two weeks. Did your dreams normalize over time, or are they still intense? Also, have you checked any bloodwork for changes?
  • grinder265: I’ve tried that split thing and it helped the headache pretty fast – went away after a couple days. I still get the vivid dreams, but they feel more coherent, less chaotic. , and the second at noon. No liver lab changes yet, just checking every 3 months. Do you notice the dreams getting less intense after you split it?
