Biotin injection for hair loss – my experience after 6 months

I started the biotin injection routine about eight months ago after a doctor in a UK tele‑med clinic suggested it for my thinning hair and brittle nails. I was taking 5 mg once a week, injected into the thigh with a fine needle. Overnight I felt a bit sore but it was manageable.
After the first month I noticed the regrowth at the front of my head – it was subtle but obvious. The nails have been noticeably stronger, fewer splits,ælp and they feel thicker. I also saw a slight improvement in my skin – fewer blemishes and a smoother texture that showed up in photos.
The biggest difference is that I no longer have to worry about the absorption issue of oral biotin; the injection delivers a full dose directly into the bloodstream. I have had one mild injection‑site flare that left a little redness for a day, nothing serious. I’ve stopped the injections now but plan to keep an eye on my hair line.
Anyone else using biotin injections? Have you seen similar results or any side effects I missed?

- ivy494: I’ve actually done a 5‑mg biotin injection once a week for the past ten months on my own, mostly through a local compounding clinic, and i noticed a gradual tightening of my scalp hairline that started around the temples, which sounds a lot like what you described – just subtle but visible once the hair starts to fill in after a couple of weeks. Fwiw the only side effect i noted was a slightly itchy spot that resolved in about 48 hours, and i kept a log of the injection site temperature, which s
- sleep_coastal: Agree, i noticed similar temple tightening after 6 months, though my scalp felt tighter even before regrowth. Did you notice any changes in hair density beyond the visual line? Also, how’d the injection site feel long-term? Mine stayed sore for 1-2 days initially but faded.
- sleep_coastal: Anecdotally I’ve been on 5 mg weekly for the last 7 months. The temples are the first spot I saw a little more density, just a few weeks after starting. I did get a small itchy nodule that resolved within a few days. I log HRV EVER, and I noticed a tiny dip in nocturnal HRV after the first few injections, but it leveled out within a week. Nothing major, just normal inflammation.
- greg208: Thanks for the update. I’m glad the temples showed density too – I noticed the front hair first, but it’s good to have a second spot. I haven’t been tracking HRV as closely, so I can’t compare the dip you saw. Did the itchy nodule go away completely or was there still a little redness? I’ll start logging HRV again to see if my body reacts the same.
- greg208: I didn’t really see a big jump in overall hair density – just the front line pulling back a bit after a month and staying there. The injection site was sore for a day or two after each needle, then calm; no lasting redness. Have you tried applying a small amount of aloe or a mild steroid ointment to ease the tightening at the temples?
- greg208: Nice to hear the results are echoing mine – the temple tightening I saw matched my front‑line regrowth. I didn’t log skin‑temp, but I did a quick check of the site each week and only had a mild redness day. I’m curious how your HRV looked – did you notice better sleep or less night‑walking? Also, did you use anything to soothe that itchy spot or just let it settle?
- casey613: The little nodule was gone after the second injection – a faint red patch lingered for about 48 hrs but it didn’t itch. I’ve been monitoring HRV with the app; it dipped about 10 bpm after the first dose then steadied. How do you time your injections, and do you notice any similar pulse changes?
- Bold-Analyst-5026: This is simular to what you are talking about injections and hair growth so I am going share. 2 years ago I started doing b complex 1 Ml injections 3 times a week becuse of fatigue and after 6 months I noticed my hair was coming back in! I had given up ever having that happen again after years of dermo care everything there shots were so painful and romaine was only good for hair fuzz I never even imagined having much hair growth again its not thick it never has been but it was the best treatme
- jake_hrv: Tbh that sounds rough, especially the pain in the injections. Did you do any bloodwork to see if your B12 or other levels were low before you started? Also, did you add any other nutrients or change your diet during those 6 months? It would help separate the B complex from other factors.
- greg208: I’m curious what vitamins were in their complex and the exact B12 dose. In my case the single weekly injection gave a clear front‑end regrowth and stronger nails, so I’ll try a lower frequency to see if that works for me too. Did you notice any long‑term thickening after the 6‑month mark?
- greg208: I didn’t run a full panel before starting, just followed the doctor’s advice. My B12 and iron were fine on the routine check‑up, so there wasn’t an obvious deficiency. I kept my usual diet – the same protein‑rich buttons I had before – no extra vitamins or a new multivitamin stack. The injection pain was just the needle hit, it’s mild and goes away. I’ll keep an eye on my blood if I ever re‑start; curious if anyone else has done a pre‑baseline test. How do you usually dose the injection, and wh
