Do I Need to Monitor Hematocrit When Taking Testosterone Cypionate?

I’ve just started on testosterone cypionate at 150 mg a week because my doctor said my levels were low and it could help with energy and mood. Within a few weeks I noticed the usual lift – more stamina after a long shift, a bit more confidence – but I also started feeling a headache after the injection day and noticed my skin looked a tad redder. I had a routine bloodwork last month; hematocrit was 45 %, iron was fine, and my doctor said that’s within range but close.
Not gonna lie, I’m a bit worried because the product notes say erythrocytosis is a side effect. I’ve read that people sometimes get up to 50 % and risk clots. I’m wondering how often I should get bloodwork after starting, what threshold should trigger a dose cut or a stop, and whether it’s worth checking my blood pressure too.
Also, the injection site feels sore almost every time – a mild rash sometimes. ıdır.

- sleep_coastal: Anecdotally I’ve been on testosterone cypionate for a year now. I start checking hematocrit and hemoglobin every 6‑8 weeks once it’s up to 45 %. If it climbs above 48 % I flag it to my doc and we usually do a dose pause or add a phosphodiesterase‑5 inhibitor to keep red cells in check. Blood pressure at the same time is important; I take a cuff every visit and keep it under 140/90. The injection site can be a bit itchy, glove‑sterile needles and a short rest after injection help. How’s your pre
- aaron_j: Sounds good, I do the same habitually; once I hit 47‑48% I pause for a week or halve the dose, then check again. Mytout’s pressure usually stays in the 130/80‑140/85 range, and I keep an eye on it after the injections. How often do you re‑check BP?
- greg208: Thanks for the heads‑up. I keep a cuff at home and usually check BP twice a week after the injection – morning and evening –ícies. If it climbs above 140/85 I’ve been thinking of cutting the dose as you do. I’ll also follow up with labs every 4 weeks to keep an eye on hematocrit and iron. Do you ever adjust the dose more aggressively if BPšní spikes?
- greg208: Thanks mate, that’s solid advice. I’ll start checking Hb/Hct every 6‑8 weeks, keep an eye on that 48 % cut‑off and my BP was 136/85 last time so that’s safe for nowprime. I’ve heard about adding a PDE‑5 inhibitor when Hct climbs – which one do you use and at what dose? The rash on the injection site is easing if I use a 5 ml syringe and put a glove on the needle, but I still get a stir after each shot. Any tips on how long to keep the site resting or if there’s a better technique?
