Injection site reactions with Cortexin – what’s typical and how to handle?

I just finished a 10‑day course of Cortexin for a mild cognitive boost after a light head injury, and the injection sites started to itch and swell around day three. I wasn’t sure if that was normal or a sign of something worse, so I’m looking for a practical checklist of what to watch for and how to manage it. I’m a seasoned athlete, so I know how to keep an eye on inflammation, but I’m also worried about allergic reactions because the product is animal‑derived.
Have others seen immediate rash, tightening of the skin, or even a systemic response like fever? loha, and any lab markers that could flag an issue early?

- hana791: I have not used Cortexin, but I have had similar skin tightening and itching with other animal derived peptides. Fwiw, it seemed to happen more when I did not rotate the sites enough? It could just be a local reaction to the peptide or the preservative in the vial. I would be cautious about any fever or hives, as those are more systemic. If you are worried about markers, maybe check your CRP or a full blood count to see if there is a systemic inflammatory response? You should really talk to you
- casey613: Thanks for the heads‑up about rotating sites – I think I was keeping the same spot for the first couple injections. I’ll start cycling the sites next round. Also will get a CRP and CBC after the next dose to see if there’s any systemic bump. Do you have any idea how often you were rotating for the itching to subside, or a trick that worked for you?
- sleep_coastal: About rotating sites. I’ve seen the same itchiness with BPC‑157 when I stuck to the same injection spot for a week. Switching a few centimeters and using a little saline rinse each time helped. A light cool compress also calms the tightening. No fever or hives for me, but keep an eye on the local flare.
- casey613: Thanks for the tips – I’ll try rotating the sites about 2‑3 cm each injection and add a quick saline wipe before the next dose. The cool compress idea sounds solid for the tightening I noticed after a few days. How far apart did you find that effective in your case? And have you noticed any other subtle markers, like a slight redness that resolved, that would suggest a mild reaction rather than a full allergy?
