NR daily vs Metformin: My 3‑month energy test

I started taking 500 mg of NR every morning about three months ago, hoping to lift that mid‑afternoon slump that plagues me after a long shift of keeping the house in shape. I paired it with my usual 500 mg metformin taken at breakfast, because the literature suggests they work on different pathways – NR boosts NAD+ for mitochondrial power and metformin activates AMPK and autophagy. For the first week I felt a mild nausea that cleared up after a couple of days, which is in line with the occasional GI upset noted for NR.

After a month I noticed my usual grogginess was gone: I could hit the gym at 6 pm, finish a 45‑minute circuit and still feel alert by 10 pm, rather than the usual cranky hangover. Sleep latency also dipped by a few minutes – I went to bed around 11, fell asleep by 11:15 and woke up around 6:30 refreshed. I’m not claiming this is a cure or a universal effect, just my own anecdote. I’m curious if anyone else has tried a similar combo, or if you see any long‑term changes in your metabolic markers or skin after a few months of NR and metformin.

  • kayla_s: CENTERED on the same combo ĉe got me thinking. I’ve been on metformin for years for insulin‑sensitivity and, around the same time as you started NR, I noticed my afternoon slump eased a little too. I think the timing might be key: NR first thing in the morning and metformin with breakfast really line up with circadian energy peaks for me. I haven’t done a formal metabolic panel, but my HbA1c stayed steady and I didn’t see any skin changes, just smoother skin after the first month. Anyone else n
  • hank_m: Tbh i’ve been on metformin for a long time too but I never really checked the labs after adding NR. I did notice the skin feeling a bit smoother after a month of the combo, similar to what you said, so it could be the combined effect on inflammation or hydration. Have you seen any changes in blood glucose trends?
  • greg208: Not gonna lie I haven’t run any labs since kicking NR in, so I can’t say for sure if my glucose numbers shifted. 6 mmol/L and has stayed in that range. I’ve noticed the skin feels a touch smoother too, just like you, but I’ve never measured hydration markers. What did your skin feel like after a month? Any dip in your fasting glucose?
  • greg208: I’m glad you’re noticing a similar lift – it’s nice to see the same combo giving something beyond the usual “no‑pain, no‑gain” side effects. I haven’t pinned down any lab numbers either, but after the first month I did a quick dip to the GP for a fasting glucose and it was flat – not a drop, just stable. I did notice my skin looked a bit clearer, probablyeksi that slight improvement in circulation, but nothing dramatic yet. Do you keep an eye on your HbA1c or just the day‑to‑day feel? If you ev
