Tbh my first week on ergothioneine, any similar experiences?

I started taking ergothioneine 10 mg a day a week ago because a friend mentioned it’s like the “longevity vitamin” and i was curious how it felt. I’ve been spotting a subtle shift – i woke up feeling a bit fresher in the mornings, didn’t have that usual post‑workout sore spot on the knees, and my skin feels a little less dull after a long day on the laptop. I think the gut hit is mild, maybe a bit of bloating at first but it calmed down after a few days.

I haven’t noticed any big changes in my energy yet, but it’s still early and i only used 10 mg, which is in the middle of the 5‑25 mg window people mention. If anyone else has done a similar run, what did you notice about skin, sleep or cognitive sharpness? Also curious if anyone’s tried pairing it with a low‑dose rapamycin or metformin stack? I’m looking to keep the dose low and see how it plays out over a month.

  • greg208: I’ve only been on it for a week too but the biggest thing i noticed was a slight lift in my focus after lunch – not a full‑on high but the brain stayed sharper for longer and the usual post‑workout fatigue in my knees was a lot milder, just like you mentioned. I’ve read some papers that say it helps with antioxidant defences and a few UK trials looked at skin ageing markers, so i’m a bit hopeful for that dull‑skin thing you described. Iavens haven’t heard anyone pairing it with rapamycin or metf
  • student_rational: I haven’t mixed it with rapamycin or metformin yet either. I’d be cautious, adding an extra drug could just double the GI bloat I already see. In my own week I noticed a tiny mid‑day lift after a heavy lunch, so keep an eye on how it stacks. Thoughts?
  • hank_m: Tbh i can see where you’re coming from on the bloat, i had a similar first‑week tweak with ergothioneine and it made my gut feel a bit off for a couple of days before settling, so i’m lean on adding rapamycin or metformin right off the bat; it could double the upset. I appreciate the mid‑day lift you mentioned after that heavy lunch, i’ll watch for that spike and see if it syncs with the ergothioneine rhythm. Any tips on timing it prove useful?
  • hank_m: Thanks for the note on the lunchtime focus lift i’ve had that half‑hour too, maybe it’s just the coffee at 12:05 plus ergothioneine keeping the brain in gear, tbh. I’m still single‑stacking, but if you bump rapamycin to a 0.5 mg nightly I’d love to hear if the antioxidant markers jump. How’s your skin feeling in week two?
